“You are in business … not just in production.”
This is the best advice I’ve been given in 27 years in business. That’s not to say we’ve always acted on it: Sign-Rite has been guilty, like many small family firms, of concentrating on helping other companies make the best of their businesses, instead of ourselves. We’ve focused on production more than profit.
But times are hard, and we must look carefully at our infra structure, products, services and customer base. “Stopping” production while we do it is not an option – so we are more than usually busy. But it has to be done, and our customers will ultimately benefit.
WORK ON YOUR BUSINESS, NOT IN IT!
Looking at your signage with the eyes of your customers and potential customers is an excellent example of working “on”, not “in” your business.
Taking a moment to stand and study your premises, your vehicles, your exhibition stand or display, will repay you. Does it convey the image you want? Does it reflect the truly good service you supply? Does it inspire confidence? Make you believe that the people associated with it are people you want to deal with?
Are you missing obvious opportunities to publicise your business? Every passing vehicle contains potential customers, so road-side signs are hugely beneficial.
Herefordshire award-winning vineyard Broadfield Court has seen the opportunity: Sign-Rite designed a new logo, in eye-catching colours and reflecting the range and quality of their services, hand-made and fitted signs.
We believe their investment – in time and money – will translate into more business for them this summer.
If you feel there is room for improvement in your business this year, ask us – or indeed your signmaker of choice – for sharp suggestions, new products and fresh ideas to present the essence of yourself in the best light possible.
It is one small step that could make a huge difference to your business.
