The Sign-Rite Weblog

I can't believe that nearly a year has passed since we last posted ... but that is because we have been so busy designing and making sign solutions for our customers that there has not been time to write about it.

Any "spare" time has been devoted to settling into and improving our wonderful new premises on Leominster Enterprise Park, but now that our operation is up and running smoothly, perhaps there will be a moment to add a word or two.

So watch this space ...

The last few months have been so busy there has been no time to sit and write ... but with our move to Leominster's new Enterprise Park imminent, there are a few minutes to take stock.

Business is brisk - we are bursting out of our current home in the countryside and with new staff member Ron Emmens, (54) who lives in Presteigne, we need our move. Hopefully all will be accomplished soon.

We have new design software, new computers including a fully portable system to take out with us on site, new production software and now a new accounts package! It is a huge knowledge mountain to climb, but climbing we are. Our aim is to go "paperless" but, after attending an excellent seminar by David Jones from xDM Software Ltd, I realise that we will probably be able to reduce, not eliminate paper, so our goal is now to go PaperLess.

We will move shortly - all welcome to come and see us in our new unit in the New Year!

Blogs! I haven't been overwhelmed by the numbers of people responding to our web offers and blogs, which put me off adding up-dates! But then a friend from 20 years ago found us and read our news ... and that has given me new heart to keep our news "out there".

Lots of new plans are in the pipe-line - most excitingly a move for Sign-Rite from the peace of our countryside workshop to the (hopefully) hustle and bustle of a new Enterprise Park at Leominster. Much as we love to work in our village surroundings - at the end of a mile-long chestnut avenue - our customers need to find us more easily and we need more space. The first building is just going up and we may just be the first new business going live ... watch this space.

The new plans have needed the whole family involved, as it will mean a life-style change - but the principal reaction seems to be positive as they will be able to walk from the new premises to the shops and the town swimming pool! (How country children suffer!!)

A footnote to our "NOISES AT WORK" legislation information: as I said, interest in this subject seems rather lack-lustre and then - on the front page of the Hereford Times - comes the story that a local poultry-auctioneer (yes, we have such a thing) has been investigated because of the volume of his auctioneering! So, just goes to show you SHOULD pay attention to boring government information! NB Are chickens covered by the legislation?

Finally, a raspberry to Hereford Council who are being "jobs worth" about charity signs beside the road. There seems to be a campaign to remove these ads - never up for long and always for a local fete, church fund-raiser or village event - and we - as a company which donates the free publicity to these good causes - have been threatened with a £100 fine if we provide them. We have done some tiny signs for Docklow Fete - which is being held at the home of Independent-writer and world-travelling sports interviewer Brian Viner - so, council jobs-worths, nick those signs and you could find yourself the subject of national ridicule!

Another week passes and I'm getting ready to send out the latest newsletter by snail mail - publicising our web - as there is no point in setting it up if no-one goes there! Then I'll send it out electronically. And, at the same time, the newsletter is providing information on the new noise legislation ... has anyone even heard of it? It has implications for the health and safety of workers and visitors to businesses, but it is hardly a sexy subject, is it? Never mind, you can get posters and guides, ear defenders and noise-activated signs from Sign-Rite and then get on with your own job.
Darcy, our work experience girl, has scuttled back to school to her "real" life. It was nice having some more female company in our male environment, but it is hard work being a 'teacher' as you do your job. (Try it all day, I hear the teachers cry - I just hope they enjoyed their two week break while we had their charges!) Interestingly, the only negative comment she made in her log book was that she didn't take too well to "being expected to do heavy jobs" - by this she meant taking out the bins ... filling a skip... unwrapping big parcels. Sigh! The youth of today! But I can't be too picky as our own son was taken by a local computer company, and I can only hope that he was more of a help than a hindrance, as we didn't get much feedback.

Hi I'm Darcy. I'm a pupil from Tenbury High school, who is doing my work experience at Sign-Rite UK, with the Sign-rite crew, Cathie, Clancy, and Shawn. As art is my favourite subject at school, I thought it would be a good idea to come and work for Sign-Rite for my work experience placement, as I would get a better understanding of graphic art and design. As well as the art side of this brilliant company, I shall be learning about office work, computer and internet design and advertising, and helping out with the actual design and construction of some of these amazing signs, fun graphics, wheelcover designs, labels, etched glass effect signs and much, much more! I would recommend Sign-Rite UK to anyone who was interested in buying a sign, whether it be for a business or for personal use. Also, I think that anyone who, like me, would like to go into art and design as a profession, should consider working or taking a placement at Sign-Rite as they would learn a great deal about the graphics and design aspect of this type of art, and would benefit from the many years of wisdom and knowledge from the Sign-Rite company. I hope this experience will ready me for the working world, and I shall report back when I have finished my work experience to tell you more of this interesting and inspiring company.

Welcome to our Weblog

What a distance we have come! From traditional sign-writing with a brush and marl stick to on-line trading! Sign-Rite UK Ltd, run by husband-and-wife team Clancy and Cathie Wilson, is buried deep in the Herefordshire countrywide, yet works all over the UK.

Celebrating our 20th birthday this year with a new web site, we lead a firm of qualified and experienced promotion professionals.

We've launched our new web with a power point presentation on a computer displayed in a shop window in our nearest town - and have had to go to and fro each day when the screen saver cuts in! We've even had rogue programmes pop up - computers, they drive you mad but you have to live with them!

Another fact of modern life - new regulations - this time on NOISE AT WORK - is our next promotion - so check the web site for special deals.
